Place the edge of the compass along an imaginary line from where you are
to where you are going. Remember that the direction-of-travel arrow
points towards where you are going.
Turn the compass housing so that the lines of the compass housing are
parallel to the map's meridians and the north arrow points north on the
map.
Hold the compass horizontally in your hand with the back edge towards
your stomach, in the middle of your body. Turn your whole body so that
the red end of the compass needle is completely still in the red part of
the north arrow in the compass housing. The direction-of-travel arrow
now points towards the point you are going.
